Today, if you didn’t know and aren’t already celebrating with your loved ones, is Jimmy Olsen Day. In celebration of this international holiday, James Gunn has shared a brand new pic of actor Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen in the upcoming movie Superman.
Gunn shared the still on Threads, saying, “Happy Anniversary to Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he did appear earlier as “office boy” in Action Comics 6). Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, and Bob Maxwell. I can’t wait for you to see skylergisondo’s portrayal in Superman on July 11, 2025.”
To be clear, the picture looks like it’s not an official film still or anything, so much as a candid shot. Regardless, it certainly looks like it was taken on the set of the upcoming film. Furthermore, given there are zero matches to previous outfits worn by Gisondo in Google Image Search, this looks like a sneak peek at one of the costumes Olsen might be wearing in the flick. I’m sure Gunn will point out how hideously wrong I am online in the most embarrassing fashion possible if this is incorrect!
Gisondo is probably best known for his roles in Licorice Pizza and Booksmart. Though I highly recommend checking out the underrated (and hilarious) Vacation remake, as well. He’s also appeared on TV in The Righteous Gemstones and Santa Clarita Diet. Jimmy Olsen has been portrayed numerous times in both live-action and animation. Coming up, Douglas Smith will play the role in the final season of Superman & Lois.
