New York Comic Con Adds Extra Day, Is Now Five Days Long:

New York Comic Con is growing, once again, with additional programming announced for the Wednesday before the convention. However, not everyone is allowed to go.

As announced by PopVerse, which is owned by ReedPop, so this is essentially like Nintendo Power exclusively announcing a new Mario game, the new Retailer Day will only be open to event sponsors, industry professionals, and of course comic book retailers. Basically, if you have a Pro Badge, game on. If not, get out of here, Jack.

The closed-door event will run from Noon to 9 pm on Wednesday, October 16, and will include a variety of programming. ComicsPro, Lunar Distribution, and James Tynion IV’s Tiny Onion will all give special presentations. There will also be exclusives given out, like a new cover for The Department of Truth #25.

Also, not to doubt the veracity of reporting from PopVerse, but while the outlet says this is the first time programming has been on Wednesday, previous years did have lead-up events throughout the week, though that schedule proved to be a little unwieldy and didn’t stick.

Anyway, short version if you see a retailer is particularly strung out by Sunday of New York Comic Con this year… You know why: they’ve been going non-stop for five days, instead of the regular four.

DC Style Guide Release Date Delayed:

Back in June, we brought you the news that DC Comics, working with Standards Manual, is releasing a hardcover, restored edition of the 1982 DC Comics Style Guide. And now, that release is being delayed.

While the 382-page book was planned for an August 31 release, 13th Dimension reports that the volume will now hit some time after September. According to the outlet, demand was so high for the book, it was moved up from a holiday release. However, Standards Manual is taking the time to upgrade the cover of the book to match the original, as well as other improvements. Meaning the actual release will split the difference between August, and the end of the year.

Originally released in — you guessed it — 1982, the DC Comics Style Guide was created by José Luis García-López among others, and served as a model for all of DC’s output… From comic books, to thermoses and lunch boxes, and more. Recently, DC ran the model sheets as variant covers. And at TerrifiCon in Connecticut this past weekend, García-López was awarded the Fan Lifetime Appreciation Award for his achievements, presented by DC Comics CCO Jim Lee. When asked about the honor, the artist said, “Thank you. I will try to work on getting better with my art.”

He’s already pretty good, and you’ll be able to check that out when the DC Comics Style Guide hits retailers later this year, release date now TBA.

Kahhori Heads From The MCU To Marvel Comics:

Kahhori is one of the few original super-powered characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now, she’ll be making her debut in Marvel Comics proper, with Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds #1.

First introduced in What If…? Season 2, Kahhori is a Mohawk warrior who fell through a magical portal and gained the powers of the Tesseract, aka the Space Stone. She then teamed up with Captain Carter to stop an insane version of Doctor Strange from destroying the multiverse.

In Kahhori: Reshaper of Worlds #1, she’ll enter the 616, aka the Marvel Comics universe, and not the movie universe like they keep saying in the movies but are wrong about, while chasing a threat from Sky World — the source of her powers. After landing in Hell’s Kitchen, Kahhori will encounter various guest stars from throughout Marvel Comics. The main story will be written by Ryan Little, who co-created Kahhori on What If…?, along with Indigenous creators Arihhonni “Honni” David and Kelly Lynne D’Angelo.

The Marvel Voices special will be released in celebration of Native American Heritage Month and feature art by David Cutler, Jim Terry, and more.

The issue will hit stores on November 6, 2024.
