Emma Ríos is the Eisner Award-winning artist behind Pretty Deadly and other series. And now she’s breaking out on her own with the stunning-looking original graphic novel, Anzuelo, from Image Comics.
In the book, the Sea rises one day and absorbs the whole world. In the process, three children find themselves lost in the Seas — and find themselves transformed physically and mentally by both the tide, and “a desire to avoid harming any living creature,” per a release provided by Image.
“No matter how carefully you plan a project like this, the work and the creator always transform and adapt due to learning and experimentation,” said Ríos. “I wanted to write the Sea under my skin and I’m fortunate to have become someone else in the process.”
The dystopian novel “revolts against the notion of violence as the only response to a life without hope,” and will hit comic book stores on Wednesday, November 6, and book stores on Tuesday, November 19. You can get your first look, below.
