This is Comic Book Club News for August 19, 2024.

DC Comics November 2024 Solicit Highlights:

DC’s November 2024 solicits are here, where the publisher shoots out synopses and covers for books three months in advance in order to snag pre-orders from comic book stores, and customers. And the big headline? Justice League is back, baby!

Technically the team, which has been off the table for a few years now, is coming back in the finale of Absolute Power, leading into October’s DC All In Special. But the title proper hits in November: Justice League Unlimited from Mark Waid and Dan Mora. The title will include the trinity of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman, but also promises to rotate between a ton of heroes in the DC Universe. Also the synopsis spoils that Darkseid dies in the All In Special, which was an interesting choice!

That’s the highlight for mainline DC, but over in the new Absolute Universe things are going full throttle in November. Batman fights Alfred in Absolute Batman #2. The Absolute Wonder Woman #2 solicit teases Diana’s status quo as Princess of the Underworld. And the Absolute Superman #1 synopsis doesn’t tease much, but it’s coming, so get ready!

Back to your regularly scheduled programming, two issues of Chip Zdarsky’s Batman pit The Dark Knight against The Riddler, The Court of Owls, and a new villain named Commander Star. Wonder Woman #15’s solicit teases the “loss of” Diana’s “great love and the birth of her child,” which seems to indicate Steve Trevor is dead, and Trinity is born. And Action Comics goes weekly in November from Mark Waid, Mariko Tamaki, and a bevy of artists.

As previously reported on this podcast, Batgirl is getting a new ongoing series that kicks off this month, from Tate Brombal and Takeshi Miyazawa. And as not previously reported on this podcast, Black Lightning is getting a new ongoing series as well. That title will be written by Brandon Thomas, with art by Fico Ossio.

But wait, there’s more! Jeff Lemire is launching a new JSA series that kicks off in November, pitting the team once again against the Injustice Society. Tom King and Ryan Sook’s Black Canary series Best of the Best kicks off, as does Alex Segura’s The Question: All Along The Watchtower. And Santa Claus is coming to town with the sequel series, Batman – Santa Claus: Silent Knight Returns, which will run weekly until Christmas.

And to wrap things up here, if you enjoyed the animated streaming movie Merry Little Batman, not only is it getting a release in theaters, it’s also getting a sequel comic, Little Batman: Month One. Cute!
