Archie Comics has done superhero stories before… But nothing like Archie Is Mr. Justice, the newest Archie Premium series, launching in November.
“This isn’t just another superhero story,” said Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “This is a story about hope in a world that feels increasingly hopeless. And in this timeline, Archie is our beacon of hope.”
The four-issue series opens with Archie as the iconic hero Mr. Justice — having left Riverdale, and his friends behind. But even without the title character around anymore, he’ll still be bringing a slew of friends with him, as the series will introduce a new writer/artist team every issue.
Archie is Mr. Justice #1 will be anchored by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton, and be told from the perspective of Jughead — who helped Archie explore his powers, and designed his costume.
“MR. JUSTICE plays with the absolute sincerity of the Archie cast of characters, through the filter of a much more cynical superhero world,” Seeley said. “I think, understandably, we’ve spent years being jaded by the idea that someone with power would be good, but that’s totally who Archie Andrews is. However, his world is full of people who care a lot more about money and power than he does.”
Other creatives behind the project include Amanda Diebert, Blake Howard, Kenny Porter, Maria Laura Sanapo, and Brent Schoonover. The first issue hits stores on November 20, and you can get a look at the covers by Reiko Murakami, Francesco Francavilla, and Matt Talbot, below.
