This is Comic Book Club News for August 16, 2024.

The Question Gets A New Ongoing Series From DC:

The Question is getting a new series from DC Comics. Titled The Question: All Along the Watchtower, the book is written by Alex Segura with art by Cian Tormey. In it, Renee Montoya is called to the Justice League watchtower by Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman in order to solve a mystery.

Teased Segura via his newsletter, “It’s a noir murder mystery on the biggest DC stage, featuring, hands down, my favorite DC Comics character. To say I’m thrilled would be an understatement.”

Segura previously wrote the character in Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn, and a currently running three-parter in Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Per Polygon, who initially revealed the series, this is an ongoing, surprisingly, versus a mini. And DC’s synopsis for the issue reveals that Montoya has left Gotham after recent events, leading to her new job in the watchtower. The first issue will hit stores on November 20.

Harvey Awards Nominees Announced For 2024:

The Harvey Awards have announced this year’s nominees! The comic book award show is basically the New York equivalent of the Eisners, with the latter taking place at San Diego Comic-Con, and the former taking place at New York Comic Con.

Per The Beat, there are, uh, a lot of names on the list, with 10 or more nominees in nearly every category. And unlike the Eisners which focuses squarely on comics, the Harvey Awards open things up to big media properties as well, with Deadpool & Wolverine, X-Men ’97, and more nabbing noms.

To highlight the Book of the Year Awards, some selections include Monica by Daniel Clowes, Love Everlasting by Tom King and Elsa Charretier, Where The Body Was by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, and Radiant Black Vol. 5 by Kyle Higgins, Joe Clark, Eduardo Ferigato, and Marcelo Costa.

As of this recording, strangely the Harvey Awards site has still not posted their nominations. However, you can apply to vote if you are a comic book professional, retailer, or librarian.

Batgirl Series Coming, Too:

And just to make this episode a DC sandwich, the publisher has announced a Batgirl series, too.

Per AIPT, the new series will be written by Tate Brombal, with art by Takeshi Miyazawa, and will star the Cassandra Cain version of Batgirl. And like the Black Canary series announced earlier this week, this series will also focus on the title character’s relationship with Lady Shiva.

Said Brombal: “Cassandra Cain has long been my favorite Bat-Family character, so I am seriously honored to be taking on her story—in the year of her 25th anniversary, no less. Get ready for family drama, long-buried secrets coming to light, and LOTS of martial arts ass-kicking the way only Cass can do. Batgirl is back in her own title, and the world won’t know what hit it.”

The new book will hit it, “it” being comic book stores, on November 6.
