Cobra Commander And Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong Top July 2024 Graphic Novel Sales Charts:
Cobra Commander and Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong are doing battle for the top of the July 2024 graphic novel sales charts.
Skybound’s Cobra Commander took the top slot on ICv2‘s list, by units sold, with DC’s Justice League/Monsterverse mash-up taking the number two slot. Meanwhile, on dollars earned, DC’s book, which is priced at $29.99, took number one, while the Energon Universe book, which is priced at $14.99, was number five.
The biggest surprise of the list, though, is the first-ever collection of Daniel Warren Johnson’s Space Mullet debuting at number five on the list. That’s followed closely by DSTLRY’s Somna, with the folk horror hitting at number seven.
DC’s Compact Comics continues to be a success story, with the budget-priced collections taking three slots for All-Star Superman, Watchmen, and Batman: The Court of Owls. And in a flip from the singles chart, both Image and DC snagged six of the Top 20 slots, each; while Marvel only got two.
In case you were worried, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is still holding strong, at number four on the units sold chart, proving it’s the success story of the past few years.
Tom King and Ryan Sook Take On DC’s Black Canary Series:
Tom King and Ryan Sook are taking on Black Canary for DC Comics, and this is one battle the creative team can’t win! Because the book is titled Black Canary: Best of the Best, and finds the character training to take on Lady Shiva in hand-to-hand combat to prove who is the best fighter in the DC Universe.
Said King, via DC Comics: “I’ve been wanting to tell this story for a few years, and I’m really excited for fans to see what Ryan and I have planned for Dinah. He’s got the perfect art style for this series, and fans will feel every punch and kick thrown from the first issue to the finale.”
Guest stars helping train Black Canary in the series include Batman, Wildcat, and her mother, the original Black Canary. The new series will run six issues, and debut in comic shops on Wednesday, November 27.
Hellverine Gets An Ongoing Series:
Hellverine, the combo of Wolverine and Ghost Rider, was introduced in a crossover, then spun off into a currently running miniseries. And now, it’s getting an ongoing series, appropriately titled Hellverine.
Written by Benjamin Percy with art by Raffaele Ienco, the new series starts Logan’s son Akihiro, aka Daken, as he grapples with being a reanimated corpse with a demonic spirit inside him. The first issue will also guest-star Doctor Strange, and sport a cover by Kendrick “Kunkka” Lim.
It’ll hit stores on December 18. That’s it, that’s the whole news story.
