Former ‘X-Men ’97’ Showrunner Beau DeMayo Reveals Marvel Has “Not Reached Out” About Emmys

Marvel Studios snagged five Emmy nominations this year, for Echo, Loki, and X-Men ’97. And one of those nominations was for the stand-out fifth episode of X-Men ’97, “Remember It.” Yet according to former showrunner Beau DeMayo, Disney and Marvel have yet to reach out to him about Emmy plans.

“To those asking, Marvel-Disney has not reached out to arrange my attendance to the Emmy’s for the show I created,” DeMayo said on X (formerly Twitter). “We shall see. My team has reached out.”

DeMayo was reportedly let go from his job as showrunner of the animated series by Marvel about a week before the premiere. Though rumors and speculation about the firing have included everything from your requisite “creative differences” to the existence of an OnlyFans where DeMayo posted non-nude pictures (which pre-existed his relationship working for Marvel), no specific reason for the firing has been reported at this time.

The first season of X-Men ’97 was finished by that point, and DeMayo was already writing Season 2 and planning out Season 3 of the series. As DeMayo noted on X, “I created and produced it, and was the entire creative point and leader on every aspect and stage or production.”

As it stands, the Season 2 scripts have already been revised — and some footage shown off of X-Men ’97 Season 2 at this past weekend’s D23 Expo. Matthew Chauncey, who previously worked on Marvel’s What If…? has taken over as showrunner for Season 3 of the series.

This year’s Emmy Awards will be broadcast on ABC on Sunday, September 15. However, the award for Outstanding Animated Program is usually announced a week earlier during the Creative Arts Emmys. Those will be held this year on Saturday, September 7, and Sunday, September 8, with the animation award likely being handed out first on the 7th.
