Witchblade Tops Energon Universe On Image Comics July 2024 Sales Charts:
For the second month in a row, Image Comics has released a chart of its top-selling single-issue comics and trades. And Witchblade has taken down the Energon Universe.
As previously reported, these sales charts only include new comics and books released during the month by the publisher and do not include specific sales figures.
That said, Witchblade #1 was, er, number one on the chart. The Energon Universe had a strong showing regardless, with Transformers, Scarltt, and Destro taking the next three spots. Spawn Kills Every Spawn and Saga took numbers five and six respectively, with Void Rivals, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Universal Monsters’ Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Spawn rounding out the list.
Overall, that marks six books from Skybound, and two of Todd McFarlane’s Spawn books dominating the list.
As for trades, Cobra Commander was number one, continuing the Energon Universe’s dominance. However, the rest of the list was an array of titles, ranging from Kill Your Darlings and Tenement from the Bone Orchard mythos, to I Hate Fairyland, Across the Massive-verse, and more.
We’ll have more on the overall sales charts, soon.
Marvel Is Introducing Two Ultimate Black Cats:
If you love the character Black Cat, has Marvel got a treat for you: Ultimate Spider-Man will introduce not one, but two Ultimate Black Cats in upcoming issues.
The first will be introduced in the title possibly as early as this month’s issue #8, which will find Spider-Man tangling with Kingpin’s Sinister Six: Mysterio, Kraven the Hunter, Mole Man, Mister Negative, and Black Cat, with Kingpin providing the “six” in the name of the group. However, this won’t be your grandma’s Black Cat. The Marco Checchetto-designed character is male, and with his pencil-thin mustache resembles the Black Fox, a character who in the main continuity trained both Felicia Hardy, aka The Black Cat, as well as her father Walter Hardy, aka The Black Cat.
The second will pop up in issue #11 in November, and driving the online trolls crazy, is Black. I can see how having a character named Black Cat, who is Black, and a cat burglar, could be confusing for those trolls, but they can also shut up.
Per Marvel’s synopsis for issue #11: “Guest artist David Messina returns as tensions rise between Spider-Man and Green Goblin in the wake of recent events! And a new villain steps up to the plate! What is her connection to the Black Cat on Kingpin’s Sinister Six?”
I’ll go out on a limb and say she’s Felicia Hardy and the one on the Sinister Six is her father, Walter Hardy. Prove me wrong, Jonathan Hickman! Prove me wrong.
DC Vs. Marvel Omnibuses Delayed:
Back in February, it was announced that DC and Marvel’s classic crossover stories are getting collected in two enormous omnibus collections. At the time, those were supposed to hit stores in August. To quote Caddyshack: well? We’re waiting?
…and you’ll have to keep waiting, as the volumes — which were previously delayed until September, are now scheduled to be released on October 8, just in time for New York Comic Con.
The two volumes are DC Versus Marvel Omnibus and DC Versus Marvel: The Amalgam Age Omnibus. The former collects classic one-shots and series like Darkseid Vs. Galactus: The Hunger and X-Men and New Teen Titans. The latter will collect the universe-smashing Amalgam crossover, with the four-issue main series plus mash-ups like Dark Claw, Doctor Strangefate, and Lobo The Duck.
As of this writing, you can pre-order them on Amazon for 10% off at $135, so get on it.
