X-Men ’97 premiered earlier this year to universal acclaim. And now, thanks to D23, we finally have some info to tide us over until Season 2.
When last we left Marvel’s merry mutants, they were split through time… With some of the team in the distant past, others in the far future. And some in “location unknown.” However, all of the team seems to be tied in some way to the history of En Sabah Nur, aka Apocalypse. Will the villain be the big bad for Season 2? Or will there be another swerve, like how Season 1 seemed to set up Mr. Sinister as the main villain… Only to introduce Bastion (Theo James)?
In footage shown at D23, new characters popping up include Polaris, Warlock, Danger (a sentient danger room), and Jean Grey somehow with Wolverine claws. Oh, and at some point the team will be wearing the Frank Quitely-designed uniforms from his run on New X-Men with Grant Morrison.
As for what the characters are up to? Per Lenore Zann, who plays Rogue, her character is “on a mission and she’s not gonna give up until she gets what she wants,” as well as being on a “hero’s journey.”
X-Men ’97 stars Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, J.P. Karliak as Morph, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, A.J. LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Ross Marquand as Professor X.
Beau DeMayo was head writer for the first two seasons, before being fired for unknown reasons. Matthew Chauncey has taken over as head writer for Season 3, with Jake Castorena as supervising director.
No premiere date for X-Men ’97 Season 2 has been announced yet. We speculated it won’t be until 2025 in our X-Men ’97 Season 2 premiere date post.
