Atari’s ‘Yars Rising’ Gets A Comic Book Tie-In

Back in 1982, Yars’ Revenge was released for the Atari 2600, along with a comic book tie-in telling more of the backstory of the game. And now, over four decades later, Atari is doing the same for the new game Yars Rising.

Written by Wayforward Game Director Adam Tierney, with art by Ele Bruni, Ashleigh Hetrick, and Aurora Maeno, the single-issue comic is a prequel to the upcoming metroidvania video game of the same name. While (you may be aware of this) Atari doesn’t have consoles anymore, the new video game will be coming to PC and other consoles on September 10. Meanwhile, the 32-page comic book will be available both online and in comic book stores in November.

Here’s the synopsis of the book, per PR provided to Comic Book Club:

The comic follows the lead character, professional hacker Emi Kimura, as she and her friends try to navigate the ramifications of a job gone horribly wrong. As the story progresses, readers are given a taste and perhaps some subtle hints about what awaits them in the game.

If you’re eager to find out more or get a sneak peek at Yars Rising, you can do so at PAX West, which will be held from August 30 through September 2 in Seattle. There, Tierney will be on hand at the Atari booth to sign early-release preview copies of the comic.
