Image Comics Eviscerates Marvel’s Red Band With New ‘Killadelphia’ Ad

Marvel Comics has been pushing their Red Band line pretty hard, with the event series Blood Hunt and new books like Blade, Wolverine: Revenge, and Werewolf By Night. But Image Comics doesn’t need no stinkin’ red bands for their comics, and that’s what they’re pushing with a not-so-subtle dig at the Marvel adults-only line with a new ad — and first look preview — for Killadelphia #35.

Written by Rodney Barnes with art by Jason Shawn Alexander, the new issue brings together the characters from the ongoing series with Spawn, Savage Dragon, and Blacula. And as the ad teases, “Warning! This comic book is only approved for horror loving audiences by Image Comics” and it continues, “No red band required.” Naturally, all of that is in a big red band reminiscent of the one on Marvel’s issues.

Naturally, no harm done here — other than the victims of vampire attacks in the book itself. It’s just a fun way of promoting a great series alongside a new initiative from another publisher.

Killadelphia #35 will hit stores on August 28, and feature covers by Alexander and Clayton Crain. It will also feature a backup story focusing on “Hell’s baddest bad**s, Johnny Gatlin,” and there will also be a Noir edition featuring only black-and-white interiors.
