Top 11 DC Comics For August 2024

Best DC Comics August 2024

August 2024 is a weird month for DC Comics. First of all, it’s August, a canonically weird month. Basically not even a month, to be honest, just a liminal space between real Summer and Fall. But also, with the publisher announcing a soft reboot (sort of) with DC All In coming in October, everything until then seems to be holding its breath.

To wit, though there’s lots of great stuff from the publisher this month, there’s not quite as much as usual. The Absolute Power event is relatively minimal in its impact on the line, but trucks along anyway. Some titles are taking a break for a Gotham City Sirens mini-event. And as Marvel wraps things up with their vampires, DC is just getting started.

With that in mind, let’s count down the 11 top DC Comics titles being released in August of 2024, broken down below in chronological release order.

1. Gotham City Sirens #1

Gotham City Sirens #1

Release Date: August 7, 2024

In lieu of Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn’s solo titles in August, they’re teaming up for a four-week event that brings the trio together, once again. Stephanie Williams takes the girls out of Gotham, but can’t take the Gotham out of the girls.

2. Absolute Power #2

Absolute Power #2

Release Date: August 7, 2024

The surprisingly tense and current first issue of this title leads — you’re not going to believe this — into the events of the second issue. But with the heroes down and out and Amanda Waller triumphant, how will they fight back?

3. Birds of Prey #12

Birds of Prey #12

Release Date: August 7, 2024

The Birds of Prey have been traveling dimensions and taken on aspects from cavewomen to domestic housewives. This issue? Chibi Birds of Prey. This is not a drill.

4. Batman: Off-World #5

Batman Off World #5

Release Date: August 14, 2024

Jason Aaron and Doug Mahnke’s masterwork story of Batman versus aliens continues in the second-to-last issue of the series.

5. DC Vs. Vampires: World War V #1

DC Vs Vampires World War V #1

Release Date: August 14, 2024

Marvel’s Blood Hunt is done, so you know what that means: time for DC’s Blood Hunt. Or rather, Blood Hunt was Marvel’s DC Vs. Vampires, as that story came first. With the first series a big hit, will folks be drained dry from the vampire superhero genre for this one? Or will it rise again?

6. Nightwing #117

Nightwing #117

Release Date: August 21, 2024

Last issue ended with a wild cliffhanger as Bruce Wayne suited up as Nightwing. This issue is the second to last of Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo’s run. How will it all wrap up? Stay tuned to find out.

7. Jenny Sparks #1

Jenny Sparks #1

Release Date: August 21, 2024

Tom King and Jeff Spokes give the Authority’s Jenny Sparks the Strange Adventures treatment with a maxiseries pitting the Spirit of the 20th Century against the soul of the 21st.

8. Zatanna: Bring Down The House #3

Zatanna Bring Down The House #3

Release Date: August 28, 2024

Absolutely the best-looking book on the stands, this fantastic reinvention of Zatanna continues as she delves further into refusing the magical call whenever she can — despite an encroaching otherworldly invasion in Vegas.

9. Batman: Dark Age #5

Batman: Dark Age #5

Release Date: August 28, 2024

Another bold reinvention, Mark Russell and Michael Allred’s revisionist history nears its climax as Batman takes on his old army commander, Ra’s al Ghul.

10. Absolute Power: Origins #2

Absolute Power Origins #2

Release Date: August 28, 2024

Technically an Absolute Power tie-in, this is much more about John Ridley deconstructing the history of the DC Universe through the lens of Amanda Waller’s rise to power. This issue: the formation of the Suicide Squad.

11. Zero Hour 30th Anniversary Special #1

Zero Hour 30th Anniversary Special #1

Release Date: August 28, 2024

DC’s under-the-radar event gets its due in this special issue by Ron Marz, Dan Jurgens, and more.
