But you’re not looking for an explanation of “who is Batman,” you want the Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1 finale, explained.
So, let’s get into it! We’ll break down a recap of the plot of the final episode, “Savage Night,” written by Ed Brubaker and directed by Christina Sotta. Then we’ll break down the ending, and discuss what might be next in Season 2. So here we goooo!
Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1 Finale Recap:
Things kick off picking up off the cliffhanger of Episode 9, “The Killer Inside Me,” with Barbara Gordon (Krystal Joy Brown) offering her services as a lawyer to Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face (Diedrich Bader). Unfortunately for Harvey, mob boss Rupert Thorne (Cedric Yarbrough) doesn’t feel too good about having a guy like Harvey who has so much dirt on him in the hands of the cops.
While Barbara starts to realize Harvey isn’t as bad as she thought he was while he stews in Arkham Asylum, Batman (Hamish Linklater) urges her to appeal to the good side of Harvey. Also, he gives her his phone number: Klondike5-0127.
As Bruce Wayne, Batman visits Harvey in Arkham and urges him to pull the strings a bit to get himself out — mostly to test him and find out how to help his former friend. In a rare case of Batman being at a loss, he, well, doesn’t know what to do.
Barbara gets Harvey out of Arkham to take him to his hearing when Thorne’s thugs attack. But of course, it’s not just any thugs… It’s the Gotham PD’s most crooked cops, Arnold Flass (Gary Anthony Williams) and Harvey Bullock (John DiMaggio). While they’re planning on killing Dent on the orders of Thorne, the former DA successfully pits the two cops against each other by using a little mind manipulation.
The car transporting Harvey crashes, which gives Barbara enough time to rescue him. Harvey wants to head straight to Boss Thorne; Barbara has other ideas and handcuffs them together. She calls her father, Commissioner Gordon (Eric Morgan Stuart), and makes plans to meet in a safe house. And then she makes a second call… To The Batman.
Gordon and Renee Montoya (Michelle C. Bonilla) wait at the docks to meet Barbara and Harvey, with Batman showing up too. And what follows is a big, elongated chase and fight throughout the foggy area with Thorne’s thugs, leading us into…
Batman: Caped Crusader Ending Explained

In the ensuing chase, Harvey gets shot, and Barbara drags them back to her car. Bullock is about to shoot Dent in the back — but Gordon catches him in the act, first. But it’s Flass who delivers the killing blow, shooting at the pair with Harvey pushing Barbara out of the way, taking the bullet meant for her.
Batman, enraged, picks up Flass’s gun and points it at him, backing him up to the wall. He fires several times, but misses him on purpose, knocks out Flass — and then tosses the gun into the Gotham harbor. Batman has finally learned an important lesson about not using guns! Good for him!
Dent dies, his last word gasping, “Barbara” as she holds him in her arms. Gordon tells Batman that if he’s still on the docks when the rest of the Gotham PD arrives, he’ll have to take him in.
Later, Batman reflects on what he saw in Harvey — and how it reflected his own turn to darkness. Alfred Pennyworth (Jason Watkins) explains that there’s good in Bruce, and he even has people on his side. After an entire season of calling his butler “Pennyworth,” he finally calls him “Alfred.” That’s what we call growth, people.
While Batman doesn’t take Thorne in, he does scare him, throwing a Batarang into his home and kicking Thorne’s ear. Meanwhile, Batman stands on a rooftop in crashing lightning, paralleling the same iconic shot from Batman: The Animated Series.
There’s still one more scene to go, though. In a small shack in an abandoned lot, we see men with rictus smiles, most dead, one laughing himself to death. The camera cuts to a pale face in shadow, who has clearly been injecting these men with some sort of chemical.
“Perfect,” says The Joker.
…and that’s the end of Season 1!
Who Plays The Joker In Batman: Caped Crusader?

The thing is: we don’t know, at least as of this writing, who is playing The Joker. The voice isn’t in the credits, nor in the Amazon X-Ray. In fact, the voice is only credited twice in the extended, international credits: Carlos Luyando is The Joker in the Spanish version, and Marcio Simões is credited in the Brazilian Portuguese version. My best, wild guess is that Hamish Linklater also provides the voice of The Joker — it sounds a bit like him, and I could see the show going in this direction. But we’ll have to wait for an official announcement from Amazon.
Will There Be A Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2?
Yep, there will be a Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2! That was announced back when the show was picked up by Amazon, and they’ve been at work on it for a while. We broke down more info on that in our Season 2 premiere date post, so go check that out!
