Amid the plethora of cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, you’ve also got the X-Men villains backing up Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) at her Ant-Man head base. Sure, name actors like Aaron Stanford show up as Pyro. But most of the ex-X-Men baddies are stand-ins for the real deal. And nowhere is that more noticeable than with the Juggernaut, who is not played by Vinnie Jones.
That’s right: despite being a dead ringer for the Snatch star, Vinnie Jones does not reprise his role as the Juggernaut from 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. Neither is the Juggernaut an AI-generated, more advanced version of the character portrayed via CGI capture of director David Leitch and voiced by Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2.
In fact, the guy who plays Juggernaut in Deadpool & Wolverine is bodybuilder and actor Aaron W. Reed, a man who has a long-standing connection to Reynolds — and director Shawn Levy. Specifically, Reed previously starred as the body of Dude, the jacked-up version of Reynolds that appeared in Levy and Reynolds’s previous collaboration, Free Guy.
That’s not the only role Reed has portrayed on screen. He’s also appeared on Jane the Virgin, NCIS: Los Angeles, two episodes of the French Connection TV series, and as Leader of the Dead in Dawn of the Zombie Apocalypse. But his role as Juggernaut is easily the biggest (maybe literally) the actor has taken on to date. In fact, he’s changed the caption on his Instagram account to, “I’M THE JUGGERNAUT B***H!!” And yep, he is.
By the way, if you’re worried whether Reed is holding a grudge against Dafne Keen for slicing his ankles in the movie… They’re all good. In a post-premiere pic, Reed posted, “Some girls have long nails but this one has claws. Had a great time working with you, you little superstar!”
Deadpool & Wolverine is now in theaters everywhere.
