Jonathan Majors “Heartbroken” About RDJ Taking On MCU As Doom Instead Of Kang

Robert Downey Jr as Doom versus Jonathan Majors as Kang

Jonathan Majors, who was let go from the role of Kang in the MCU after being found guilty of harassment and assault, is speaking out about the news that Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom is taking over as the cinematic universe’s Big Bad.

“Yeah, heartbroken,” Majors told TMZ when the outlet cornered him outside Dayglow, a coffee place in West Hollywood. “Come on. Come on. Yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang… Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”

Of note for Marvel fans, though Downey Jr. has been confirmed as the villain at the heart of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, they haven’t officially said whether the character Kang will return or not. If the time-traveling despot does show up — presumably to be murdered by Victor Von Doom — he won’t be played by Majors.

TMZ followed up with Majors as he quickly walked down the street, asking whether he felt that he had been treated unfairly, versus Downey Jr. and Ezra Miller, who had also both faced legal troubles.

“I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being, and has been, greeted with patience and curiosity,” Majors replied. “And love. And that Mr. Miller has gotten the same treatment. And that they’re being allowed to work their art. And be creative… At that level… I didn’t really get that.”

It probably goes without saying, but these are three extremely different cases. For Majors, he was accused of assault and harassment by his now ex-girlfriend. After the accusations, he was dropped by multiple projects, and his representation. However, Marvel waited until the guilty verdict this past December.

Downey Jr., meanwhile, was arrested for possession of drugs and a gun in 1996, and given three years probation. After a stint in rehab, he briefly held a role on Ally McBeal but was let go in 2001 after relapsing. He entered a court-ordered rehab program and has stayed sober since 2003, when he returned to acting, working his way up to playing Iron Man in 2008… A role many at Marvel didn’t want to give to him, because of his decade-long issues.

And Ezra Miller has been accused of multiple crimes, including assault, burglary, grooming of minors, and more. Miller hasn’t been cast in a role since 2023’s The Flash.

While Majors declined to opine on why his treatment was “different” than Downey Jr. and Miller’s, in his opinion, he did seem eager to return to the Marvel role.

“Kang? Hell yeah,” Majors said when asked if he’d like to return. “Hell yeah, hell yeah. I love him. I love Kang. I love Timely. I love He Who Remains. Love ’em.”
