A this point, pretty much everyone in the world has already seen Deadpool & Wolverine. Or if you haven’t, you’ve seen the multitudinous clips that have leaked online… Some of which are being shared wide and far by the film’s director Shawn Levy, and star Ryan Reynolds. But spoiler warning past this point anyway, in the opening sequence Deadpool (Reynolds) dances really well to “Bye Bye Bye” by *NSYNC. But did Ryan Reynolds dance in Deadpool & Wolverine?
No. No, he did not. In fact, the guy who did it is a dancer named Nick Pauley, who is credited as Dancepool in the film. Pauley revealed more about the role on Instagram, along with a picture of himself in the Deadpool costume on set.
“It’s true! I am Dancepool in the new ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,'” Pauley wrote. “This secret has been so hard to keep! I can’t believe I have the honor of being vancityreynolds ‘dance’ double for the opening scene of the entire movie!!! Like what?!? What is life?”
Pauley continues to explain that he attended the premiere of the film on July 22, and it was “pretty surreal. I hadn’t remembered what I freestyled in between the choreography, and it was hilarious to watch it back and be like ‘oh my god now I remember doing that’.”
Pauley also praised Levy and Reynolds for making him feel “right at home.”
Yesterday (July 30), Pauley followed up on that post with a video of his dance audition process. In the video, Pauley explains that his agent told him, “I need you to learn the Bye Bye Bye dance right now. I can’t tell you what it’s for, but it’s huge.” After what Pauley says was 30 minutes of practice, he nailed the dance and sent it to his agent, nabbing the role of Dancepool.
But as one commenter called out, he may have fulfilled his destiny. Wrote Instagram user kie.sha, “And you wore red and black… it was meant for you.”
So yep, not Ryan Reynolds, but Nick Pauley! Looking forward to Dancepool vs. Wolverdance.
