As teased last week, Psylocke is getting the sum totality of her own ongoing solo series from Marvel. The news was announced yesterday (July 27) at San Diego Comic-Con, as part of the publisher’s X-Men: From The Ashes panel.
Written by Alyssa Wong with art by Vincenzo Carratù, the new series will tie into Psylocke’s current status quo in X-Men, where she provides the muscle for Cyclops’s strike team. However, she’ll be taking a page from Wolverine’s book here by going off on missions too dangerous for the X-Men team, while facing her own dark past.
“Everything in her history points her to the path of a villain,” Wong said via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Her background is so full of tragedy—so why does she choose to be a hero? This is a dark emotional character story. But it will also be a ton of fun as well. I’m excited to do something super dark”
Psylocke is now the name used by Kwannon, the psychic ninja whose body was previously inhabited by Betsy Braddock. In the upcoming series, we’ll get to see her lover Greycrow, find out more about her past being raised by The Hand, and meet a new villain with an eye for spreadsheets called the Taxonomist. Or maybe he’s into taxidermy, I don’t know.
Check out the official synopsis for the series below, as well as covers by Mahmud Asrar, as well as variants by Rickie Yagawa, Hicham Habchi, and Artgerm. Psylocke #1 hits stores on November 13, 2024.
SHE WAS MADE FOR VIOLENCE! Trained to be an assassin since birth, Kwannon chose to be an X-Man. But there are still some jobs too dirty for the X-Men. And some paths have to be walked alone. When the mission is brutal, Psylocke unsheathes her blades to punish those who prey on mutants. Exploding out of the pages of X-Men, join Psylocke into the underbelly of the Marvel Universe, carving out her own place in a world that would rather see her under control!
