Lewis Pullman Is Playing “Bob” In ‘Thunderbolts*’ Wink Wink

Lewis Pullman

There’s already a fair amount of news coming out from Marvel’s SDCC panel in Hall H, including the identity of Giancarlo Esposito’s character in Captain America: Brave New World. But one thing Marvel Studios is still playing coy about is the identity of Lewis Pullman’s character in Thunderbolts*, who is simply called Bob.

…So he’s definitely The Sentry, right?

In footage from the upcoming superhero team-up shown in the room, we see the various characters fighting, Julia Louis Dreyfus’s Valentina has seemingly bought Avengers Tower, and it all ends with meeting “Bob” wearing simple scrubs.

But, here’s the thing. Bob is the short name of Robert Reynolds, aka The Sentry. And previously, when Steven Yeun was rumored to be joining the movie, he was also rumored to be playing The Sentry. So ergo, there’s a pretty good chance that Pullman is The Sentry in the film, too.

Who is The Sentry, you may ask? Created by Paul Jenkins, Jae Lee, and Rick Veitch in The Sentry #1, the hero has the power of a thousand exploding suns and can turn from regular Bob Reynolds into a powerful superhero. His arch-enemy? The Void, a terrifying nihilistic nothingness. The twist is, Bob is also The Void. The goal was to delve into the psychology of a man, to show his good and bad sides at war.

Will Thunderbolts* delve into that, too? Or will it just be, you know, a powerful superhero? We’ll find out when Thunderbolts* — which let’s be honest, is probably actually named Dark Avengers — premieres on May 2, 2025.
