Giancarlo Esposito’s mystery role in the MCU has been finally revealed. And no, he’s not playing G.W. Bridge as previously rumored.
As revealed as part of Marvel Studios’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Esposito is playing Sidewinder, the head of the Serpent Society in Captain America: Brave New World… And presumably in other projects going forward, if everything goes according to plan.
There have been three iterations of the character in Marvel Comics, stretching all the way back to Marvel Two-in-One #64 from 1980. Originally named Seth Voelker, he has a flamboyant serpent costume and the ability to teleport.
Based on the scant footage we’ve seen of Esposito in the movie, he seems to not have a snake costume. He also doesn’t seem to have teleporting powers — but he does have cool sunglasses, and a lot of knives, which is very similar.
In addition to the reveal of Esposito’s character, the crowd was also treated to new footage from the film confirming that Tiamut, the Celestial from Eternals would play a role in the film… And Harrison Ford’s President Ross dropped the word “adamantium,” aka the metal that laces through Wolverine’s skeleton.
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14, 2025.
