‘Absolute Green Lantern’: Al Ewing And Jahnoy Lindsay Bring “Complete Reimagining” To DC

Green Lantern

DC Comics has just announced its upcoming Absolute Universe line, comics set on a new, darker Earth. And while it won’t debut until October, we already know of at least one new title coming to the line: Absolute Green Lantern.

Written by Al Ewing, with art by Jahnoy Lindsay, the title was revealed as part of the Jim Lee and Friends panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Per Popverse, Absolute Universe co-architect and Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder teased the book, saying, “It’s a complete reimagining of the property… as good as Immortal Hulk and the best things [Ewing] has ever done.”

Interestingly, this title has been in the works for two years — about when plans with Snyder, co-architect Joshua Williamson, and DC for Absolute Universe and the DC All In initiative that surrounds it began. And as soon as Ewing pitched it, it was immediately greenlit by DC Editorial. That said, the book won’t debut until March of 2025, well past the launch of Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman in October, and Absolute Superman in November.

The book is being framed as a first contact story, including this new universe’s versions of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Jo Mullein (the N.K. Jemisin created character from Far Sector). Also per Popverse, while this takes place in the Darkseid-fueld Absolute Universe, it will stay true to the ethos of Green Lantern by bringing “light to the darkness.”

Also announced earlier in the con, but with far fewer details, Jeff Lemire and Nick Robles are working on Absolute Flash. No debut month or further details were provided on that title.
