It’s the biggest mystery to hit the internet since that dress which had different colors, depending on how you looked at it: who played Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine? And now that the movie is finally playing in theaters, we know the answer.
…Well, sort of. The thing of it is, in opposition to the internet’s insane obsession with the character, this is one of the cameos in the movie that doesn’t matter. Spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine past this point, but Lady Deadpool never takes off her mask and says “Surprise, it’s me, Taylor Swift!” Lady Deadpool is not Taylor Swift, by the way. There are plenty of wild, unexpected actors playing surprise roles in the movie… But Lady Deadpool ain’t one of them.
I realize you just want the answer already, and I swear I’m not trying to delay gratification, merely make you understand that I will tell you who plays Lady Deadpool, and then I’m going to continue to explain why it’s not important who plays her.
Blake Lively plays Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Yes, as heavily suspected, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds’s real-life wife plays Wanda Wilson, a multiversal variant of the Merc With The Mouth. Blake Lively is listed in the credits for Deadpool & Wolverine as Lady Deadpool, so therefore it’s her. Earlier in the movie, a nice variant of Deadpool called Nicepool (also Reynolds) even makes a joke about how Lady Deadpool recently had a baby, and the weight just fell right off — a clear reference to Blake Lively, who has had four kids with Reynolds.
But here’s the thing, again, as to why it’s not important. In the scene, Deadpool and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are facing off against the Deadpool Corps, a group of about 100 Deadpool Variants that include characters like Headpool (voiced by Nathan Fillion), Kidpool (played by Reynolds and Lively’s daughter Inez Reynolds), and Cowboy Deadpool (Matthew McConaughey). Lady Deadpool leads the Deadpool Corps, and they get into a big tracking shot fight with the group.
That’s it, though. She’s the leader, she has a few lines of dialogue. But Lady Deadpool never takes off her mask. She doesn’t have a bigger role to play. She also pretty much gets lost in the insane fight scene, not really getting her own stand-out moment. In fact, it’s entirely possible that despite the credit, Lively may not even have been on set. That could very well be a stuntperson with Blake Lively’s voice recorded later.
I’ll certainly eat those words if Lively posts a mask-off picture from the set sometime after opening weekend. But as is, Deadpool doesn’t even make any jokes like “I’m going to marry Lady Deadpool” or whatever. He’s too busy loving Dogpool and getting Nicepool killed.
So there you go, you have your answer! Now, back to that dress…
