Dark Horse Books and Marvel Comics are teaming up for a series of art books, kicking things off this October with The Art of the Amazing Spider-Man. But the series is about to expand dramatically with a multi-volume series within the series titled The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby.
“40 years into his career, Kirby once again redefined the comics medium and his iconic covers helped usher in the Marvel age of comics. Volume 1 teleports us back to the early days at Marvel Comics and explores his early work on these beloved characters,” said Vincent Iadevaia, co-designer, co-editor, and curator of @kirbycovers on Instagram, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club.
The first volume, which is scheduled to hit stores in January of 2025, will cover (no pun intended) Kirby’s work for the publisher from 1961-1964. That includes cover art from The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, Journey into Mystery, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, and The X-Men. Not only will the book include the reproduced covers, but it will also include commentary on the covers — not literally, it’ll be in the margins and subsequent pages — explaining the master’s artistic process.
The 184-page book is priced at $49.99, and will hit bookstores on January 7, 2025, and comic book shop on January 8, 2025. You can check out the cover, below.
