‘Alien: Romulus’ Scares Up A Prequel Comic From Marvel

Alien: Romulus, the latest movie in the storied Alien franchise, will hit theaters on August 16, 2024. And as just announced, Marvel will follow up on the flick in October with a prequel one-shot written by Zac Thompson, with art by Daniel Picciotto.

Appropriately titled Alien: Romulus #1, the comic will take place before the events of the upcoming movie, and provide “an illuminating backstory behind the film’s main threat.” That threat, by the way, is the Xenomorph in case you were unclear. And in the movie, the aliens attack a new, young group of space colonizers unprepared for the acid-blooded menace.

“The Alien franchise is responsible for my lifelong love of body horror, so needless to say, I’m ecstatic to be contributing a small piece to the canon,” Thompson said via press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Working with Fede Alvarez to craft a prequel to Alien: Romulus was a genuine dream come true and a responsibility I don’t take lightly. The result is a thrilling, terrifying story that slowly gestates into something wholly unpredictable.”

The book was made in “close partnership” with Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez, as well as his co-writer on the film, Rodo Sayagues. The main cover is by Leinil Francis Yu, with a variant by Björn Barends, both of which you can check out below. Alien: Romulus #1 will hit stores on October 16, 2024.
