Marvel Has “No Immediate Plans” For ‘Eternals 2’

Eternals

I guess they weren’t so eternal after all? Marvel’s most maligned movie (or one of them at least) won’t be getting a sequel any time soon, as Marvel chief Kevin Feige has revealed there are “no immediate plans” for Eternals 2” in a new interview.

“There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2,” Feige told Inverse. “There are, and I think you’ve seen maybe in a trailer we’ve released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean.”

On the second part, Feige is not-so-stealthily referring to the hand of Tiamut, the Celestial who was turned into a giant island at the end of Eternals. The land mass that has become a frequent internet joke (“it’s been 300 movies and nobody has mentioned the giant alien in the ocean!”) but will in fact return as a key location in Captain America: Brave New World, as glimpsed in the first trailer for that movie.

Despite being directed by critical daring Chloe Zhao, and starring a cadre of well regarded actors, Eternals was neither a critical nor box office hit (the latter due at least in part to the ongoing COVID pandemic). However, rumors of a sequel — ETWOernals, if you will — have persisted.

Now, that seems not to be, despite the cliffhanger ending of the movie, and other dangling plot points like Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) finding a weapon called the Ebony Blade, and the introduction of Harry Styles as Starfox and Patton Oswalt as Pip the Troll.

Hey, at least that fan favorite island is back in the new Hulk movie! I mean, Captain America movie. We’ll see Tiamut in theaters everywhere on February 14, 2025.
