Marvel May Have Used “Misdirection” And “Subterfuge” To Protect ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Cameos

Deadpool and Wolverine

It’s pretty well known at this point, despite protests to the contrary, that Deadpool & Wolverine will be a parade of cameos. Marvel of course insists that every one is in there for a purpose, but the internet has been going wild with theories ranging from classic actors returning to their roles, to your requisite MCU Easter eggs. But according to Marvel’s Wendy Jacobson, some of what you’ve read online might have been planted… By Marvel.

“There may or may not have been some subterfuge and misdirections on the internet or in-person in order to protect the secrecy,” Jacobson told GamesRadar+.

While that, er, may or may not mean they did leak fake rumors to throw folks off the scent, it certainly sounds like they did. And now I can’t get the idea of Kevin Feige, hunched over his computer writing Deadpool fanfic for 4chan and posting photoshops on Reddit out of my mind.

As for who is actually in the movie? Jacobson was mum, but toed the line that they’re all in there for a reason – not just to gag fans. “I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick,” Jacobson continued. “Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn’t.”

We’ll find out for ourselves who actually is in the movie when Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024. Or later tonight when the social embargo breaks and all hell breaks loose. Either way.
