We’re mere days from the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. And with screenings of the full movie tonight, as well as the review embargo breaking tomorrow (July 23), the spoiler-averse will want to be on high alert. In fact, if you don’t want to be spoiled about a key Loki cameo, don’t watch the recently released 30-second trailer that urges fans to see the movie before it gets spoiled.
The cameo — and spoilers past this point — isn’t a huge surprise, since at least some chunk of the movie is set in the TVA (Time Variance Authority), the main setting from Loki. However, up to this point, it’s seemed to have been set in a different section of the TVA than that series. The sets are different (though carry the same aesthetic), and the main point of contact for Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) seems to be Mr. Paradox, played by Matthew MacFadyen.
However, this teaser includes none other than the head of the TVA (after the events of Loki Season 2), Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) telling someone “I want to show you something huge.” It cuts to a different scene with Deadpool responding, “I don’t think you’re supposed to say that. And the rest of the teaser plugs “See the movie first… Before it gets spoiled.” Despite, you know, some circles probably feeling like showing a Loki cameo with no warning is a spoiler. Oopsie!
Personally? I’d argue if it’s part of the marketing materials it’s technically not a spoiler, but it might be a thing you didn’t want to know in advance. I also personally loathe the idea that you have to see a movie or watch an entire season of a TV show immediately, or you will be punished in some way. However, that’s tilting at windmills. The fact of the matter is that some dink is going to come out of the screenings tonight and post “This is not a spoiler but Galactus eats Doctor Doom” or something and everyone will lose their minds. So if you really care about a spoiler-free experience, unplug from the internet today until you can see the movie.
Or don’t watch any of the official marketing materials.
