Paulina Ganucheau is taking over writing duties on Dynamite‘s Powerpuff Girls series, starting with issue #4. She’ll step from artist to writer, filling the shoes of Kelly Thompson, who wrote the first three issues of the series. Silvia De Ventura will take over as the artist for issues #4-#6, paired with Ganucheau.

“It would be an understatement to say how beyond honored I am to be taking up the helm on one of the greatest properties ever and to follow in the comics footsteps of the great Kelly Thompson,” said Ganucheau via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “I am so excited, and as a lifelong fan I will be putting my best foot forward with these three issues. Now, if only I could go back in time and tell my 10-year-old self that she’d one day be writing The Powerpuff Girls comics, she would shoot through the roof!”

Ganucheau and Thompson both appeared on this past week’s live episode of the Comic Book Club podcast, if you’d like to hear more about their process of crafting the book. While Thompson is the writer for the first three issues of the Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products/Dynamite book, Ganucheau drew the recently released first issue, while Kevin S. Darboe will take over art for issue #2, and Miriana Puglia will draw issue #3.

Dynamite also teases that this isn’t the end of the switches and that in fact “this marks the first transition establishing the series as switching off to a different, fresh female writer after every three issues.” They also tease that another “big name” will take over starting with issue #7 of the series.

In issue #4, the Powerpuffs attend a bake sale hosted by Ms. Bellum and Buttercup — only to run afoul of Princess Morbucks. Ganucheau, Nicoletta Baldari, Kenya Danino, and Pasquale Qualano all contribute covers to the issue. It will hit stores on a TBA date in October.
