If you’ve stuck through the end credits on any episode of The Boys, or any show produced by showrunner Eric Kripke, you may have noticed his production company is called KEI Scrap Metal and Entertainment. This is not a joke… It’s an actual scrap metal company, which was run by Eric Kripke’s father Larry Kripke. And in the Season 4 finale of The Boys, the younger Kripke pays tribute to his father with a simple, poignant title card: “For Larry Kripke.”
Per Recycling Today, Larry Kripke passed away from Parkinson’s Disease at age 80 on February 13, 2024. He started in the “recycled metals industry” in Toledo, Ohio in the mid-1960s… Then managed to build up his business to found KEI in 1993. Though his other son, Matt, is now CEO of KEI, the company paid tribute to him on his passing, calling Larry Kripke, “not only a visionary in our industry but also a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.”
When Eric Kripke expanded into producing, the company expanded too — it still deals with “recycled metals,” aka scrap metal, and also does entertainment. The revamped company and logo was first launched in 2005, I believe the same time Kripke introduced the world to Supernatural.
And now, with Larry Kripke’s passing earlier this year, his son paid tribute to him in The Boys Season 4 finale. It’s sweet, it’s sad, but now you know the story behind that tribute card!
