Barbarella is back, baby! The “siren of the spaceways” is returning in a brand new series from Dynamite, written by Blake Northcott, with art by Anna Morozova.

“There are only a handful of sci-fi/fantasy characters who have endured for decades, and Barbarella is right at the top of the list, alongside Leia, Ripley, and Sarah Connor,” said writer Blake Northcott via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “Telling one of her stories is the opportunity of a lifetime — how could I say no to that?”

The new series is being announced in advance of San Diego Comic-Con, and very far in advance of the currently in development film from actress/producer Sydney Sweeney. She’s not involved in this, though, so stop being weird, everyone.

In the new series, Barbella is getting some R&R after once again saving the universe. But while she discovers that the pleasure planet she’s visiting has something weird about it, “all the way across the galaxy, there is something off about Earth’s oldest and most venerable colony. Altogether, Barbarella’s uniquely well-rounded skills will be in dire need across the cosmos, and she’s sure to run into all manner of unscrupulous figures along the way!”

Northcott has previously worked on Catwoman, Vampirella, and Fathom, while Morozova is best known for her work for 2000 AD, including on Judge Dredd. Barbarella is “her first major spotlight for many American readers.”

Along with the aforementioned adventures, Barbarella will visit new planets, head to more planets than usual, and bump into both new characters and returning favorites, some of whom may or may not be planets.

The comic will also pay tribute to the original film and comics by including Barbarella’s pet Vix, and other elements from Jean-Claude Forest’s books from the ’60s.

Joseph Michael Linsner, Annie Wu, and Richard Pace contribute covers to the issue, along with the requisite cosplay cover, featuring Rachel Hollon.

Barbarella #1 will hit stores on a TBA date in October, but you can check out the four covers and unlettered interior pages, below.
