Writer Brian Azzarello and artist Vanessa Del Rey are teaming up for a new BOOM! Studios title, The Creeping Below, which the publisher is describing as a “revenge saga.” And it looks awesome, based on the covers provided to Comic Book Club.
Azzarello has been busy with The Blood Brothers Mother over at DSTLRY with his 100 Bullets collaborator Eduardo Risso. But this new book returns him to BOOM! after the excellent, extremely adult Faithless, a book he worked on with artist Maria Llovet — who provides one of the variant covers for this new title.
Del Rey, meanwhile, is probably best known for The Empty Man and Redlands, and along with colorist Hilary Jenkins will help bring to life this “revenge story about black metal, magic, and Norse mythology.”
Here’s the official synopsis, via BOOM!’s press release:
“When Val, an American metalhead attending a music festival abroad in Oslo, is victimized and killed at the hands of a charismatically evil local black metal band, the Old Gods of Norse Mythology raise her up and guide along the path of brutal vengeance in the name of women everywhere. But will she walk the warriors path, or become something far more terrible?”
The first issue of The Creeping Below will feature a main cover by Del Rey, and variants by Llovet, Mike Deodato Jr., and Jae Lee. You can check them out below, and the comic itself will debut in shops on October 2, 2024.
