Guess who’s back? Back again? It’s our semi-weekly Marvel production updates, where we discuss what might be coming down the pike for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This week, there are some updates about Avengers 5, Avengers 6, Spider-Man 4, and Spider-Noir.
Before we get to that all, a word of caution here. All of this info is pulled from Production Weekly, which is a resource used by behind-the-scenes folks to look for jobs. The listings are openly not vetted by the PW staff, and they’re often culled as much from online rumors as they are from actual, reported info. The point here is to take this all with a grain of salt.
Let’s start with the newest listing, for Spider-Man 4. Point of clarification, this is Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland and Zendaya (both of whom are listed in the cast), not Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi, back at it again. According to PW, the movie is aiming for an October 2024 start date in the United Kingdom, which seems remarkably soon for a movie we don’t even officially know is happening. Don’t get me wrong: it’s happening. There will always be Spider-Man movies, just like there will always be Batman movies. But unless Spider-Man: Home Four-closure or whatever it’s called is announced at San Diego Comic-Con, it would be surprising to hear it starts shooting in three months.
Regardless, the listing also includes Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers as writers, who wrote the previous three Holland Spider-Man movies. They also list Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley or Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah as possible directors, and a release date of July 10, 2026.
As for your two upcoming Avengers movies — Avengers: No Kang Home and Avengers: Secret Wars — the reason they’re popping up is most likely that Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are in talks to direct. However, the additional info here is that PW points to Avengers 5 as shooting in London from March 2025 through August 2025; and Avengers 6 shooting from December 2025 through June 2026. They also list Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as writers, which was not mentioned in the Russo report earlier today. But given the foursome have worked together on multiple Marvel movies before, if Feige does lure back the Russos, it would make sense to bring in their writing team, too.
As for Spider-Noir, I don’t believe there’s any new info from what we reported on last week, other than that the planned September 2024 shoot in LA will last until February 2025. It also includes a synopsis blurb noting that Nicolas Cage is playing Ben Reilly, not Peter Parker. However — no slight meant — the least reliable thing in PW is the synopses they use, so I won’t repeat the rest.
And that’s it for this week! Come back next week for even more tortured pun titles for Marvel movies. Same spider time, same spider place.
