Iron Man Enters A “Brutal” New Era From Spencer Ackerman And Julius Ohta

Iron Man is about to enter a brutal new era in a brand-new Iron Man #1. And he’s bringing along Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Spencer Ackerman, and artist Julius Ohta along with the ride.

“Winning a Pulitzer is cool and all, but it’s not writing for Marvel Comics,” Ackerman shared via a press release provided to Comic Book Club by Marvel. “And to write IRON MAN is a very specific dream come true. A lot of comics’ best creators have used Iron Man to tell big stories about security and freedom – with a whole lot of super hero action, of course – and I can’t wait to build on their legacy.”

The title was teased at the end of today’s issue of Invincible Iron Man and finds Tony Stark once again rich and in control of his destiny — and armor. When Roxxon and A.I.M. come back in the wake of the fight against Orchis, “they’ll be met by an Iron Man more than willing to fight back, play dirty, and unleash every bit of his intellect to bring them down.”

In order to do that, Tony will develop a brand new armor called “Improvised Iron Man,” which sadly does not seem to be based on a suggestion from the audience. Instead, it will find Tony “tinkering and upgrading it to counter anything the world throws at him.” In addition, there’s also a new Iron Monger, with a “mysteriously-powered” new armor designed by Ohta.

“In my day job reporting on national security, I’ve covered the real-life equivalents of the Stark Expo, watched experimental weapons in action, seen their impact on human beings, and tracked the massive wealth they generate for a select few,” Ackerman continued. “Tony struggles with challenges – and is sure about to struggle with challenges – that I’ve covered for years. Only now I can write about them the way I’ve always wanted to: in a super hero universe!”

Called “brutal” in the press release, this new era will find an angrier Iron Man taking on the world, starting on October 23. You can check out the main cover by Yasmine Putri, and a variant by Sumit Kumar, below.
