The mystery of the identity of Lady Deadpool has only deepened, thanks to a new teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine. And while internet sleuths worldwide had previously matched her legs to stars like Blake Lively and Taylor Swift, now we have a full torso to match her up with. And not only that, but we also know Lady Deadpool is a blonde! Unless she’s wearing a wig.
The new teaser, titled “Everyone,” actually has a bunch of new footage in it. There’s more repartee between Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds). We get to see Deadpool and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) bring Dogpool to see Blind Al (Leslie Uggams). But the main event is a quick shot of Lady Deadpool strutting onto the screen as the camera pans up her body.
There’s also a glimpse of a cowboy Deadpool, and Dogpool with goggles but blah, blah blah… Who is playing Lady Deadpool? EW reported conclusively that Taylor Swift is not in the movie — neither as Lady Deadpool, the mutant Dazzler, or even as an extra hanging out at craft services. So we can rule her out; except that actors lie all the time, it’s basically their job.
Blake Lively, the real-life wife of Reynolds, seems to be the most likely suspect. And I’m no body expert, but I have watched an extraordinary number of episodes of Gossip Girl, and can semi-confidently say that looks like Lively to me. But with a tight leather super-suit, and as mentioned what definitely could be a blonde wig… This could be anyone.
In fact, while Lively would be a very fun cameo, what if instead Lady Deadpool, aka Wanda Wilson, is played by Morena Baccarin? We know part of the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine involves Wade’s girlfriend moving on to a new man. So if he gets a second chance with a multiversal variant of Vanessa (Baccarin) who is basically himself… Wouldn’t that help the emotional thrust of the movie, per recent statements by Marvel’s Kevin Feige?
Whatever is happening, we’ll find out when the movie opens on July 26, 2024. In the meantime, actors may lie, but as Shakira sang: hips don’t. So get to it, body experts.
