You’ve heard of Selena + Chef. Well, what about Rich + Comics + Cooking? Tortured ledes aside, comic book creator Rich Douek has announced Comic Book Kitchen, a new web series that pairs recipes with comic books. Aka, the perfect pairing.
“I’m thrilled to introduce Comic Book Kitchen,” said Douek via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “In a saturated market, it can be challenging for comics to stand out. This series is my way of celebrating the stories that have inspired me, from classics to hidden gems, alongside a few of my own creations.”
The first episode launches this Wednesday (July 17) on Instagram and TikTok and finds Douek tailoring a recipe to The Avengers by Jed Mackay and CF Villa. Will Douek be cooking some sort of Ashen Combine, per the villains in the series? I don’t know what that recipe would be, but I hope not, that sounds gross.
Further episodes in the series, which will be released bi-weekly, include Hellboy, Do a Powerbomb, and more TBA.
“Cooking has always been a part of my life,” Douek added. “While I may not wield a chef’s knife like a pro, I bring enthusiasm and flavors that pack a punch. It’s all about sharing what I love with fellow enthusiasts.”
Douek is best known for comics like Road of Bones and Sea of Sorrows. But he’ll be deboning chickens and cooking fish from the sea for… Honestly, I don’t know what I’m doing here.
“I’m happy to invite both comic fans and foodies to join me on this journey,” Douek concluded. “My hope is that everyone will discover something new, whether it’s a comic they’ve never read, or a recipe they’ve never tried!
