Is Jensen Ackles returning to The Boys as Soldier Boy in Season 4? A new video on YouTube posted on the official Prime Video YouTube channel is heating up speculation. And while a random compilation video is far from confirmation the character will be back, it is weird timing.
We’ve actually already covered general speculation about Ackles’s return to the series, back before Season 4 began. One piece of evidence? Ackles was wearing a crew hat from The Boys while golfing in Honolulu. Far from conclusive evidence, but it was something. And certain leaker accounts also seemed to indicate a return was in the offing, which added fuel to the fire that The Boys‘ dark version of Captain America would be back on the show.
To quote Caddyshack: well? We’re waiting! The Season 4 finale starts streaming on Thursday, and thus far other than Soldier Boy showing up on a standee in a video store, an appearance on a magazine cover, and some mentions here and there, Ackles has yet to show his face.
Then, there’s the compilation reel Prime Video posted on July 13. As reported over on GamesRadar, the reel is titled “Jensen Ackles is THE Soldier Boy,” and is captioned, “Soldier Boy is… Soldier Boy. Get ready for the most diabolical season yet. New episodes of The Boys season 4 are dropping weekly.”
The over-six-minute reel doesn’t contain any new footage, but it is pretty weird to drop a Soldier Boy video less than a week before the season finale. Even weirder to caption is “get ready for the most diabolical season yet,” when that season has been streaming new episodes for over a month.
So what does it mean? A cursory scan of the comments shows that folks are certainly speculating this is a helpful reminder about the character for when he (potentially) returns in the finale. Others are speculating there’ll be a Soldier Boy spinoff announced, which sounds… Not outside the realm of possibility, but perhaps a bit of wishful thinking.
Regardless of what’s going on — heck, maybe this was supposed to go live on June 13, not July 13 and someone chose the wrong month — we’ll know for sure in just a few short days.
