It’s been a long time coming, but the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World is here. And this time, Marvel has dropped the trailer in advance of next year’s premiere date — not McDonald’s.
The fourth movie in the MCU‘s Captain America series, Brave New World has been in development for a good long while, with multiple reshoots and release date shifts. But none of that matters now because we’re getting our first good look at Sam Wilson’s Captain America (Anthony Mackie) in action.
More than a direct sequel to the first three Captain America movies, this follows up on both The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series… And, surprisingly, 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. That’s because the film brings back Tim Blake Nelson’s villainous Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, as the main antagonist of the film… As well as Liv Tyler as Bruce Banner’s love interest, Betty Ross.
It also provides a returning character, with a new face… Harrison Ford takes over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross after actor William Hurt passed away in 2022. And as McDonald’s did indeed leak, Ross will be turning into the rampaging Red Hulk at some point in the movie.
In addition to the above, Danny Ramirez reprises his role as Joaquin Torres from Falcon and the Winter Soldier, now in a new variation of the Falcon suit Sam previously wore. Carl Lumbly also returns from the TV series, as Isaiah Bradley, aka the first super soldier before Steve Rogers.
Drawing a lot of controversy online, Shira Haas also joins the cast as Ruth / Sabra, an Israeli superhero and soldier. And drawing less controversy, Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast in a mystery role.
The movie is directed by Julius Onah, and written by Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Matthew Orton. Captain America: Brave New World premieres in theaters on February 14, 2025.
