Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson’s classic animal detective series Beasts of Burden is getting a massive collection from Dark Horse Books. The appropriately named Beasts of Burden Omnibus will run 576 pages and hit stores in February.
In case you’re not familiar with Beasts of Burden? Get familiar. Mixing Dorkin’s wry sensibilities with Thompson’s willowy art, BoB features a series of dogs and cats living in the quiet town of Burden Hill, who have to investigate weird, supernatural mysteries. Or as Dark Horse describes it via a press release provided to Comic Book Club, “When supernatural events threaten the quiet suburb of Burden Hill, it’s up to a determined group of ordinary dogs and cats to defend their home from demonic frogs, zombie roadkill, and a rat cabal led by a dead mystic with an insatiable appetite for blood.”
The omnibus edition is a paperback and features all of Dorkin and Thompson’s comics so far. It also features stories by Sarah Dyer and Mike Mignola, art by Thompson and Benjamin Dewey, and letters by Nate Piekos and Jason Arthur. It collects Animal Rites, Occupied Territory, Neighborhood Watch, and Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men, and the Wise Dogs tie-in stories… And a special crossover with Hellboy.
Despite the page length, the Beasts of Burden Omnibus is an affordable $29.99. It will hit bookstores on February 11, 2024, and comic shops on February 12, 2025. You can check out the full cover, below:
