The cast of Prime Video‘s upcoming live-action Spider-Man: Noir series, now titled Spider-Noir, is coming together. Joining Nicolas Cage, who will play the titular character, are Lamorne Morris as journalist Robbie Robertson, and Brendan Gleeson as a mystery villain.
Loosely based on the comics of the same name, but more specifically spinning off of the animated version of the character from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir will feature Cage as a 1930s-style down-on-his-luck investigator who just happens to have spider powers. Curiously, none of the press around the show has confirmed whether he’s playing Peter Parker… So perhaps they’ll give him another multiversal name, to separate things out.
Morris is probably best known for his role in New Girl. He also appeared on Woke on Hulu and had an appearance on Fargo. Per Deadline, his Robbie Robertson will be, “driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer. A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York, he takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”
Meanwhile, much less is known about Gleeson’s character. This is his first role since appearing in The Banshees of Inisherin… So perhaps he’ll be playing the iconic Spider-Man villain The Finger Thrower.
The series is co-showrun and EPed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who developed the show with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who are also EPs. Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes of the show, and — you’re not going to believe this — will also be an EP.
While no premiere date for Spider: Noir has been announced yet, it’s currently slated to be broadcast on MGM+, before heading to Prime Video.
