Who Plays Barbara On ‘The Boys’? Meet Nancy Lenehan

Barbara The Boys Nancy Lenehan Season 4

On the latest episode of The Boys, Season 4, Episode 4 “Wisdom of the Ages,” we met a brand new character who is crucial to Homelander’s (Antony Starr) development: Barbara, played by veteran actress Nancy Lenehan. But who is Barbara on The Boys? And who is Nancy Lenehan?

Why, friend, this is exactly what we’re going to discuss in this post! So let’s not delay, and get into the explanation and whatnot.

Who Is Barbara On The Boys?

In this week’s episode, Homelander heads back to a place called Project Odessa, where he was raised. Turns out the facility used a bit of the old Nazi technique in terms of torturing and testing the Supe. And the whole thing was run by a lady named Barbara, who is the third in the triumvirate of folks who essentially created him, also including Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) and Jonah Vogelbaum (John Doman).

While everyone else is terrified of Homelander, Barbara seems resigned — almost bored, treating him like a spoiled toddler instead of an all-powerful superhuman. She’s not wrong to do so, either, as she admits that Homelander is stronger than all of them, and could have broken out of the facility at any time in his youth. However, what they discovered is he’s a narcissist. That’s his Kryptonite, and they exploited it, widened it, let it grow until he was close to controllable.

…Or that’s what she thinks. By the episode’s end, Barbara is left locked in a cell Homelander calls “the Bad Room” with the mutilated and pulverized bodies of her co-workers splashed all over the wall. She’s gasping, and terrified, and Homelander got exactly what he wanted.

Wait, Wasn’t There Another Barbara On The Boys?

Yes, there was! Season 3, Episode 5 “The Last Time To Look On This World Of Lies” introduced a character named Barbara, played by Imali Perera. That Barbara was head of Crime Analytics until The Deep (Chace Crawford) decided he wanted to be in charge, and fired her. So, different Barbara!
