Comic Book Club: Matt Starr

New comic book reader Matt Starr (UCB Theater) joins the fellas to chat about Avengers, Locke & Key, and the worst ways of getting into comic books.

This Week’s Stack: Hawkeye #1, Amazing Spider-Man #690, Before Watchmen: Nite Owl #2, Prophet #27

Week In Geek:

– Peter Jackson is making three Hobbit movies. Not so small are they JUST KIDDING.

– Angie Harmon wants to play She-Hulk in a movie… Do we want that, too?

– Speaking of small, is an Ant-Man movie coming in 2014?

– And Marvel may be planning an Avengers themed TV series; will it star the schawarma?

  1. You mentioned that you think it would be good if they did a SHIELD spy movie, but don’t you think they are going to do some sort of spy movie with Cap 2? I see that as the natural way for that movie to unfold. I also was thinking that they would have something with Hawkeye and Widow in it, since they talked about how Widow was brainwashed in the Avengers movie. Her brainwashing and Winter Soldier seems to be an easy connection to build her character more (which was done much better in Avengers than in Iron Man 2).

I think that if they stick to building up smaller characters in other movies before spinning them off into their own films would be a better safer route for Marvel to go. I know they want money, but don’t burst the bubble too quickly. They could have Hawkeye and Widow as back up in Cap 2 or Iron Man 3 and then spin them off into a movie. On the other hand, they maybe planning to do similar character development as a supporting role with Ant Man.

Was also thinking it would be cool if Thanos was used like SPECTRE from Bond as the big evil working behind the scenes in Thor 2 or other films as a way to set him up as an appropriately menacing villain for Avengers 2.

  2. Oh, sure, it just seems like a clear next step – to have a spin-off S.H.I.E.L.D. or Nick Fury movie, with a lot of the elements you mentioned. Heck, I just want more of everything 🙂
