Surprise! Simon Pegg Is In ‘The Boys’ Adaptation After All

The Boys Simon Pegg

Amazon Studios’ highly-anticipated series The Boys took the stage at New York Comic Con with a panel discussion with the cast and creators – and a first look at the subversive superhero series. In addition, fans were treated to a surprise cameo from Simon Pegg, whose likeness was the inspiration for “Hughie” in the original comic book series. It was revealed, with a quintessential awkward family photo, that Pegg will be appearing in the series as Hughie’s (Jack Quaid) dad.

During the panel, a corporate video from Vought’s VP of Hero Management, Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue), revealed just how much of a business it is to be super.

During Comic Con, a new poster featuring “The Seven” was revealed along with the previously released image of The Boys.

The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multibillion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.

The Supes of “The Seven” are A-TRAIN (Jessie T. Usher, Independence Day: Resurgence), HOMELANDER (Antony Starr, Banshee), STARLIGHT (Erin Moriarty, Captain Fantastic), QUEEN MAEVE (Dominique McElligott, House of Cards), THE DEEP (Chace Crawford, Gossip Girl) and BLACK NOIR (Nathan Mitchell, Supernatural).

Along with Quaid, The Boys are rounded out by BUTCHER (Karl Urban, Star Trek), MOTHER’S MILK (Laz Alonso, Detroit), FRENCHIE (Tomer Kapon, Hostages) and THE FEMALE (Karen Fukuhara, Suicide Squad).

The Amazon Studios hour-long superhero drama is developed and written by showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural).  The eight-episode Prime Original series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and executive produced by Kripke, Point Grey Pictures’ Evan Goldberg (Preacher), Seth Rogen (Preacher) and James Weaver (Preacher), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz (Prison Break), Ori Marmur (Preacher) and Pavun Shetty (New Girl), as well as Jason Netter and Ken Levin. Garth Ennis (Preacher) and Darick Robertson, who created the comic book on which the series is based, will also co-executive produce.

The Boys is scheduled for a 2019 global release, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories.
