Doomsday Arrives In This New Look At ‘Krypton’

Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell as Lyta-Zod, Colin Salmon as General Zod

Want to hear a bad idea? Like a really, extremely bad idea? Here goes: team up with General Zod and use Doomsday to stop Brainiac.

If you’re not a fan of DC Comics, and/or Superman, that might sound like a mess to you. So allow us to explain:

SYFY’s Krypton takes place two centuries before Superman rockets to Earth. Focused on Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the series teams him up with time-traveling superhero Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) in order to stop Brainiac (Blake Ritson) before the latter destroys Krypton.

Enter General Zod (Colin Salmon), one of Superman’s other greatest enemies, who has also traveled through time to stop Brainiac.

And as we speculated about on the most recent episode of our Krypton podcast, Zod has a secret weapon to stop Brainiac. That weapon is Doomsday, the creature who killed Superman in the comics.

*alarm bells start ringing, never stop ringing*

The “In The Coming Weeks” promo teases other upcoming events (you can check out a gallery of images from next week’s episode “Civil Wars“), including shifting loyalties and big secrets revealed. But yeah, man. Zod + Doomsday + Brainiac? If anything, Krypton is going to explode sooner than usual.

Here’s the official description of the series from SYFY:

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
