Getting naked in front of your betrothed is one way of shifting the power dynamic in your relationship, that’s for sure. And that’s exactly what Nyssa-Vex (Wallis Day) did on the latest episode of SYFY’s Krypton.
In the scene from “The Word of Rao“, Nyssa is checking out outfits with some holographic tech that seems not too far from what we have on our world, when Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the man she’s supposed to marry, walks in. She immediately takes off her robe, and asks him which outfit she should wear instead.
Seg is clearly uncomfortable, but since they’ve already seen a video of their future baby growing old and dying, little things like full-frontal nudity won’t make their relationship any weirder. Instead, Nyssa uses the opportunity to knock Seg off balance, and get him to admit what she already knows: he’s in love with Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell).
To be fair, we had a mild disagreement about this on our Krypton podcast After Krypton: some of us thought this cements Nyssa as the real power player in Kandor; others thought she’s just manipulating Seg to her own ends.
Watch the scene, and judge for yourself:
Here’s the official description of the series from SYFY:
Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
