Will ‘Krypton’s Adam Strange Open The Door For More DC Characters?

SyFy’s Krypton takes place centuries before Superman becomes the greatest hero in the DC Universe… But that doesn’t mean the prequel can’t have its cake and eat it too, thanks to Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos). The classic character plays a big part in the narrative of the show — but is he also a clue that there may be more DC heroes on the way to visit Kandor?

In a new behind the scenes package from Krypton, Sipos, as well as Executive Producer David Goyer and Geoff Johns, President and Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment chat about how Strange changes the trajectory of Krypton’s history. Sent by Superman himself, Strange is trying to stop the evil Braniac from consuming Superman’s home-world, effectively erasing him and all the good he’s done from history.

But there’s a neat little clue dropped by Johns that points to something more than just Season 1 beating Braniac and Strange saying au revoir to Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe).

“Not only does he give us a great entry point,” Johns says, “but he also opens the door for the whole DC Universe.”

Unless that’s a tiny door only big enough to let in Strange and Braniac, it’s pretty clear we’re going to be visited by more recognizable faces, possibly even before the end of the season.

So who could show up on Krypton (the show, and the planet)? Certainly now that the Kryptonians know (or will soon know) they’re not alone in the universe, you could see any number of alien races or space-bound characters, from Thanagar to the Green Lantern Corps.

But the Strange connection peaks my interest. He’s traveled through time, so more likely we could see other characters from the DCU show up; or maybe even Seg traveling to Earth in the future in Season 2. My uneducated guess? Given how much love Johns has for the characters, could we see a fellow time traveler named Booster Gold turn up to deal with Strange’s messing with the timeline? And maybe he’d bring a friend named Blue Beetle with him?

Watch the video for yourself, and speculate wildly.

Here’s the official description from SyFy:

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. Based on DC characters, Krypton is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy). Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
